Community

The community is the asset

[layout: pillars]

unancher is not a coaching vendor that runs 4-week programs. We’re a community of mid-career women in India, and the cohort is our entry ticket. The peer circles, mentorship, alumni network, and shared learning are what compound in value over time.

Connection that lasts

A woman who joins a cohort, makes 5 friends in a peer circle, and gets matched with a mentor keeps showing up — for the next cohort, the next event, the next conversation. The community outlasts the program.

Trust that travels

A community of 500 women generates ~150 referrals per cohort cycle. People share what they trust.

Voice that grows louder

A community of mid-career women creates cultural conversation — about family, identity, ambition — that no individual program can produce alone.

The community at the end of Year 1

[layout: stats]

Three cohorts. Three language circles. A working mentor network. An active alumni base.

  • 120+ | Women across 3 cohorts
  • 3 | Language peer circles
  • 20+ | Active Cultural Mentors
  • 8-12 | Employer partners

Peer circles, by language

[layout: cards | cols: 3]

Indian mid-career women returning to work face cultural pressures that don’t translate — family negotiations, in-law expectations, “log kya kahenge.” Peer circles in the mother tongue create a different kind of trust. Same women, different language, deeper conversations.

  • English | English Circle | Bengaluru · 1 per cohort | Bi-weekly, 90 min | In-person (Bengaluru) + Zoom | 10-12 women | 1 alumni ambassador
  • Tamil | Tamil Circle | Bengaluru · in-person only | Bi-weekly, 90 min | In-person (Bengaluru) only | 10-12 women | Family-session curriculum in Tamil
  • Kannada | Kannada Circle | Bengaluru · starts Cohort 2 | Bi-weekly, 90 min | In-person + Zoom hybrid | 10-12 women | Cohort 2 (Q3 2027)

Year 2-3: Hindi and Telugu circles added, plus a second English Circle in Chennai when we launch there.

A peer circle session, in 90 minutes

[layout: step-columns]

Same format every session. The rhythm is the magic — women know what to expect, can prepare, and feel safe.

  • 0-15 min | Check-in round | Each woman shares one win + one struggle from the past 2 weeks
  • 15-45 min | Topic of the month | Rotating: salary negotiation, family conversations, imposter syndrome, asking for flexibility
  • 45-75 min | Pair-and-triad work | Practice a conversation, share a CV, do a mock interview, role-play a difficult family talk
  • 75-90 min | Commitments + accountability | Each woman states one specific action for the next 2 weeks

Cultural Mentorship program

[layout: h3-grid | cols: 2]

Every Cohort participant is paired with a Cultural Mentor — a woman 12-24 months out of career break. 1:1 guidance for 6 months. A relationship of mutual learning, not a service transaction.

How it works

  • Monthly 60-min call (Zoom or in-person)
  • Weekly WhatsApp check-in
  • Optional in-person meet-up once per cohort
  • 6-month commitment, with optional extension

How mentors are matched

  • Same industry (IT mentor + IT mentee)
  • Same language (Tamil mentor + Tamil mentee for family conversations)
  • Same life stage (mentor with kids + mentee with kids)
  • Same career ambition (mentor who returned to management + mentee aiming for management)

How mentors give their time

  • Mentorship is a volunteer role. No fees, no stipends, no incentives.
  • Mentors are recognised through the unancher Awards (Recognition of Service category) and through the alumni network.
  • Many mentors describe the experience as professionally and personally meaningful — they learn as much from their mentees as they give.

Mentor training

  • 2-hour onboarding before matching
  • Active listening (not giving advice unless asked)
  • Recognising distress signals, referring to support services
  • Confidentiality + boundaries

Alumni: beyond Cohort 1

[layout: h3-grid | cols: 2]

  • Board participation — 1-2 alumni on advisory board in Year 2

Governance and safeguarding

[layout: h3-grid | cols: 2]

As the community grows, governance and safeguarding matter. We earn trust by being predictable, fair, and safe.

Year 1 governance (informal)

  • ED makes community decisions with input from Program Lead and Community Ambassador
  • Quarterly community health review (engagement scores, attendance, referrals)
  • Monthly community survey (1 question, 30 seconds)
  • Direct feedback loop with circle facilitators

Year 2-3 governance (formal)

  • Community Advisory Board (5-7 members)
  • Quarterly Advisory Board meetings
  • Annual community survey (NPS, satisfaction, outcomes)
  • Code of Conduct (peer + mentor + conflict resolution)
  • Safeguarding Policy + Data Privacy Policy

Conflict resolution (4-step)

  • Community Ambassador mediates — 1:1 with both parties
  • ED mediates — if unresolved at step 1
  • Code of Conduct committee — 3-person alumni panel
  • Removal from community — rare, only for repeated violations

Safeguarding

  • Mandatory 2-hour safeguarding training for every circle facilitator
  • Referral list ready: Vandrevala Foundation (mental health), iCall (helpline)
  • Annual safeguarding policy review
  • Confidentiality clause in every mentor-mentee and facilitator agreement

What this community is built on

[layout: h3-grid | cols: 3]

The community runs on shared values, not on transactions. These are the principles every member, mentor, ambassador, and partner signs up to.

Mutual support, not charity

Every member gives and receives. No one is “helped” — everyone learns alongside everyone else.

Show up

Be present in circles and events. Reply to WhatsApp. Respond when someone reaches out. The community only works if people keep showing up.

Confidentiality is sacred

What is shared in a circle stays in the circle. Period. This is the foundation of trust.

No judgment

Every woman’s path back to work is different. We don’t judge choices, timelines, sectors, or family situations. We support what’s true for each woman.

Lift as you climb

Once you’re back, you bring the next woman with you. Mentorship, referrals, testimonials, board participation — every alumna gives back.

Respect for family and culture

Indian women returning to work navigate family expectations, joint family dynamics, and cultural norms. The community respects these — never minimises, never dismisses.
